Biography

Born in Mexico City, Dr. Oscar Sosa-Nishizaki received his bachelors degree in Biology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He earned his Masters of Science and Ph. D. degrees in Fisheries from the University of Tokyo, Japan. Since 1990, his research has focused upon fisheries and the biology of large pelagic fishes -- primarily swordfish and blue shark -- from the Baja California Peninsula. At CICESE he is in charge of the Fisheries Ecology Laboratory, teaches Populations Dynamics and Fisheries Ecology, and directs undergraduate and graduate students.
