Yikes! My beach is for sale!

You might see some ads on this site advertising Costa Rican land for sale on Playa Grande Beach -- THAT"S MY NESTING BEACH!!!

Don't buy it!!! It's in Las Baulas Naitonal Marine Park. The Park protects the beach and the 150 feet behind it. It's illegal to cut the vegetation in that zone. It 's illegal to place structures in that area. If you buy a lot behind the beach you will probably lose it to the government through the process of eminent domain.

Why the restrictions? We leatherbacks need a quiet, dark empty beach to lay our eggs. And Playa Grande is the last significant nesting beach along the entire Pacific coast of the Americas....that includes South, Central and North!!!!

So, how about this deal: buy land anyplace else, except our beach. (Or...buy the land and donate it to our park!! We'd love that, too.)
Before you buy any land in the area of these beaches it's a good idea to meet with the director of the park. He can tell you what the current rules are and what the future rules might be.
