Antarctica, Part 4 - Seal no.7
Posted April 25th, 2007 by DanielCosta
We moved out of Lellamand Fjord yesterday and woke up ready to move towards Marguerite Bay. However, before we could get very far, we came across a flow with two seals on it. We got to work and were able to put out our seventh tag. The ship was close enough to the seal that we were able to get photos of it after it got into the water. You can see the CTD on the seal as it swam by the ship.
We weren't so fortunate over the rest of the day, as we saw lots of crabeater seals, but none of them were on floes that were large enough to work on. We continue to see lots of fur seals, and the occasional leopard seal.
The weather gods have been very kind to us as we had another remarkably beautiful sunny blue sky clear day. Of course we took lots of pictures, as the landscape is stunning!
