16 Fur seals tagged...out of 60,000

We deployed the last tag on Sunday in the Cape fur seal rookery at Kleinzee, on the shores of a DeBeers strip-mining diamond mine. The rookery is about 12 to 18 miles long and contains about 60,000 seals.

We caught 17 seals, and put out 16 tags. We released one seal since it was starting to molt and the fur would not hold a tag.

We are now in Cape Town and I'm headed to the Society of Conservation Biology meeting in Port Elizabeth. On Thursday we are going diving with white sharks.
