How do you tag an albatross?

How do you tag an albatross? Is it stressful for the bird?
Answered by MelindaConnersAlbatrosses are tagged using a quick and low-stress method that takes only 10-15 minutes. We place the tag in the middle of the birds' back using a special kind of tape that adheres very strongly to itself. We grab 3-4 feathers, wrap the tape underneath those feathers, then wrap the tape over the tag. This method is extremely effective, and it is very rare to lose a tag if placed on the bird this way. To recover the tag, we simply peel the tape off from around the tag and feathers, leaving very minimal feather damage. Wah-lah!
