Elephant seals as ocean sensors is a really great idea! I'm curious, what are some specific things that you have learned about the ocean environment with the help of the ellies?

Most of our analyses so far have been focused on the behavior of the animal in relation to oceanographic features, learning about which features are important to the elephant seals. We have learned that eddies and temperature fronts are important oceanographic features, that may aggregate prey for the elephant seals to exploit.
